The Laboratory was founded in 2007 for the purpose of research into physics and chemistry of creating new metal- and intermetallide-based materials, including nanostructured ones, and of technologies to use them.

Main focuses

The Three Dimensional Nanostructured Materials Scientific and Research Laboratory

  • works on bringing together scientists, postgraduate, and undergraduate students of BelSU, as well as academic and industrial partners interested in fundamental and applied research in Materials Science;
  • combines fundamental and applied research to provide cutting-edge solutions for real world problems;
  • attempts to be world leader in the relevant fields;
  • emphasizes the importance of training of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Main lines of activities

  • Research and development of new methods and technologies for production of bulk nanostructured materials based on physical understanding of relevant processes.
  • Fundamental and applied research in creep and superplasticity of metallic materials.
  • Research and development of high entropy alloys for structural applications.
  • Fabrication of carbon steels with ultra-fine-grained fibrillar structure and extremely high strength and impact hardness for low temperature application.
  • Advanced titanium alloys and Ti-based intermetallic alloys for aerospace applications.
  • Research and development of magnesium-, titanium- and high entropy alloy-based metal-matrix composites reinforced with non-metallic particles.

Commercialization results

  • High-strength nanostructured rods, sheets, foils of titanium, nickel, copper, niobium, tantalum, aluminium, iron and their alloys.
  • Methods and technologies for refinement of microstructure in semi-fabricated metal- and intermetallics-based materials.
  • Technologies for thermal and thermo-mechanical processing of metal- and intermetallics-based materials to provide a better combination of mechanical and functional properties.
